Coming crack-down on education

A recent article written by Dr. Michael P. Farris of HSLDA (featured in “The Child”) outlines the very real and increasingly bold threats in the legal and international world against home and private schooling.

As briefly covered in “The Child,” the totalitarian mindset of modern law is producing shocking statements like the following:

“FREEDOM OF RELIGION
DOES NOT INCLUDE…
RELIGION WHICH IS INTOLERANT
OF THE BELIEFS OF OTHERS”

“STATES DELEGATE
POWER OVER CHILDREN
TO PARENTS—
NOT VICE VERSA.”

Every American who values freedom should read this article:

New Website

Introducing the brand-new www.TheChildDocumentary.com!

Posted by: watchmancinema | November 10, 2010

Well, we’re here!

When we wrote our last post on October 15, “Nearing the Finish Line,” we had no idea just how far from the finish line we actually were. A predictable rookie mis-judgement, as it turns out.

So we have not posted until now for a couple simple, humble reasons:
1) We had no time. Literally.
2) We wanted to share good news with you. I.E. – IT IS FINISHED!

We are happy to be able to overcome both reasons today. “The Child” is finishing up processing at the replicators this week and will be shipped out to screening hosts next week in time for the 20th premiere date.

Some of the highlights of the good news:

Over 300 individuals have signed up to host a screening of “The Child” in their community! ParentalRights.org is spear-heading the coordination of these screenings, as afore mentioned, all of us at Watchman Cinema had absolutely no time to do so.

We are extremely honored and humbled by the trust people have put in us and this documentary by committing to host a screening.

However, for the more skeptical, we are also working out a way to preview a low-quality version of the film online, to review its content before committing to support the film. If this applies to your situation, you can email TheChild@parentalrights.org to learn if and how you can preview the film.

Work continues, but most of us have made significant headway into paying off our sleep deficit. During the last three weeks of production, the post-production crew members were literally sleeping and working in shifts round the clock to get the film done. Tackling unpreventable technical difficulties and unforseen, curve-ball, turn-of-events, we give God all the glory for having a finished product to share with you all. 🙂

Thank you for your continued support – it also gave us motivation during our darkest hours. 🙂

We’ll check back in soon.

Nearing the finish line

Well, editing is quite a task. Not just a technical task, least of all a technical task but a very artistic, creative task. And that takes time, energy and patience as you craft the story of a film. Our team is still working on the final rough draft. The composer is waiting in the wing with music in his head and heart for this film and we are excited to hear it as well.
We hope to get the narration and final finishing touches done with in the next week to 10 days. Then it is off to the replicators. Please continue to hold this project in you prayers

“The Child” Update – 9/29

We have several topics to cover in this week’s update: 1) the home video campaign, 2) grassroots screenings, and 3) a newly released extended promo!

1) Thank you to everyone who responded to our request for home videos in our last email! Our inbox was flooded with encouraging inquiries; we are grateful for everyone’s patience as we worked to respond to them all.
However,  we have only received actual home videos from a small percentage of those who offered, and are still in need of more. Specifically, we are in need of videos with middle and high school age children; but all home videos are still welcome!
Understanding that it was an extremely short-notice request, the deadline for submission has been extended one week, to Wednesday, October 6, 2010. Please have mail packages post-marked by this date, and online transfers sent to WatchmanCinema@gmail.com. Again, a huge and grateful THANK YOU to everyone willing to help us with this aspect of production!

2)  Here is another opportunity to get involved: You can help us premiere “The Child” all across the U.S. on November 20, 2010 by hosting a public screening in your area!
If you can arrange a public venue for the screening and commit to attending it yourself, we will supply the advertising and educational materials, as well as an advance DVD copy of “The Child,” free of charge. To request all the details, email WatchmanCinema@gmail.com.

3) Most exciting of all, we are pleased to share with you our latest extended promo for “The Child.” To view it on youtube, follow this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul6Eod0j8Q4 or also see it featured at www.ParentalRightsUS.org. Enjoy!

Finally, thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to upgrade the website. Our webmaster just moved last week and is working on getting set up for business again.
Thank you for your continued support!

Godspeed,
The Watchman Cinema Team

Home Video Campaign

To receive email updates like the following, send a blank email to WatchmanCinema@gmail.com

Dear Friends,

An unseen battle is developing between the rights of parents and the authority of the government to direct the upbringing and education of children. The stakes are high; the outcome of this struggle will affect countless future generations.

“The Child” documentary will not only highlight the threats facing parental rights, but also the precious essence of family. We are convinced the most genuine way to do this is to use real home videos of real American families as the backbone of the film’s visuals.

Think of the message it will send to our audience, as they watch families much like their own; playing, celebrating, working, learning – simply being together. It will serve as a visual reminder for all of us: this is worth preserving.

To achieve this concept, Watchman Cinema needs your help. We need lots of home videos, showing lots of different families, doing lots of different things, in lots of different places. We would be honored if you would help us capture true diversity among the vast array of unique families all across the U.S.A.

All videos will be used anonymously, unless name recognition in the credits is specifically requested.
Owing to a tight production schedule, we will need to receive all submissions by September 30, 2010.
If you are willing to help us in this endeavor, please email WatchmanCinema@gmail.com for instructions on how to submit your home video via online or mail.

What we’ve been up to…

We apologize for the period of silence, everyone! It’s just that, we didn’t think the following post would be so enthralling:

Guess what we’re doing? Editing!

-and-

What’s up? Editing…

-or-

Here’s the latest: what? you guessed? Yep, that’s right – editing!!! 😀 😀 😀

So, you get the idea. 😛

In other news, “The Child” teaser trailer and fan trailer will be aired on a live-streaming of the “March on D.C.” event tomorrow, on 9/11/10. It’s not too late to watch the streaming yourself! Check out http://www.myedecision.com/WatchEvents.aspx for more info.

The Stats

Well, we’re back.

Back home. It’s exciting, relieving, and wonderful – except for the next mountain looming right in front of us. Now we head into editing, which starts with taking a closer look at all the material we’ve captured during our travels, sorting it out into a coherent 90-minute film, and then trying to make it look and sound great. 🙂

September will be a hurricane of a month, as we not only dive into editing, but also initiate the PR campaign, get a real website up and running, work on distribution, and hopefully release some more videos!

But before moving on, let’s take a moment to look back at what we’ve accomplished… here are some stats from our last trip:

19 days on the road.

Filmed 20 individual interviews.

Drove through 17 states.

Stayed in 10 different hotels, 4 different homes.

Traveled 5-6,000 miles.

We never could have done it without the support of our church family back home, those who hosted us in their homes, those who lent us equipment, those who donated funds, and least of all those who agreed to be interviewed! We love you guys. Thank you SO MUCH!!!

From, “The Child” Film Crew

P.S. See you all in November!
